HVAC Ad Builder Addendum
A few weeks ago we published an article on using HVAC ad builder programs, and it seems to have created some confusion. We have received a few phone calls and e-mails asking for more detailed information on how to leverage these advertising and marketing programs, so today we'll try and clear things up for everyone.
First, it is important to distinguish between HVAC distributors and HVAC retailers. Distributors are companies that deal directly with manufacturers and typically act as wholesalers operating over a wide area, often at a state or regional level. Retailers are stores that sell small, individual quantities of products directly to the end-user or consumer. The corporations that actually make the heating and air conditioning units do not work directly with HVAC retailers; they sell all of their merchandise to HVAC distributors.
The ad builder programs that we mentioned last month are marketing and advertising cooperative funds that licensed HVAC distributors are able to utilize under specific terms and conditions. The companies that offer reimbursement for cross-branding and marketing assistance usually maintain official lists of approved advertising and marketing items, almost all of which are more traditional forms of medialike TV, radio, and newspaper. Web sites and other Internet-related advertising and marketing are not covered in the universally approved list of items, and as such require special approval from the manufacturer's corporate offices. Over the past year, many distributors have been able to use funds from these ad builder programs to cover costs related to the development of a Web site on a case-by-case basis.
HVAC retailers will have access to separate advertising and marketing co-op programs administered by the HVAC distributors through which they buy merchandise. Local retailers need to contact their distributors to find more information on the availability of advertising and marketing cooperative programs in their area.
If you are working with an HVAC distributor that would like to try and take advantage of an ad builder program, please contact Casey Callaway at (866) 287-8121 or e-mail him at ccallaway@sitehelp.org.
Wrapping Text Around an Image
Recently, we've received a few requests for help wrapping text around images, so today we are going to try and walk you through the process.
First, we'll have to teach you a couple of new technical terms: style rules and classes. Style rules are special instructions that tell Internet browsers how to read certain parts of the Web site. A class simply refers to any component that allows you to use more than one style rule on the same Web page.
Once you have inserted an image onto a page with text, you will be able to wrap text around the image in five easy steps:
1. CREATE A STYLE - Click on Main on the menu bar, and under Edit Others select Style Sheet. Next, select Style Editor and enter a name for your new style. Once you are finished, click on Create A New Style, and you will see the words "Style added" in red at the top of the page.
2. UPDATE STYLE - Click on Box Properties and select the last option, Float. Next, select the direction in which you would like to wrap the text and click Update. You should now see the words "Style updated" in red at the top of the page.
3. CREATE A CLASS - Select Class Editor on the menu bar and enter a name for your new class before clicking on Add Class. You should now see the words "Class XXX created" in green at the top of the page.
4. SELECT NEW CLASS - Click on the blue name of your new class. Select Main, the first option, and then the name of your new style and click Update. You should now see the words "Style sheet updated" in green at the top of the page.
5. APPLY NEW CLASS - Close the class and style editor window. Click on the image to which you would like to apply the new class. Under Edit select Properties, and then scroll down to choose the Class Name you would like to apply to the image. After you click on Update you will see the words "Component properties updated" in green at the top of the page.
TIP: To help you remember which style you are applying to your new class, try using the same name for both. Also, don't forget to edit the site in Advanced Mode, otherwise you will not be able to use a majority of the editing tools and features in the software.
If you have any other questions about editing a Web site, please contact Customer Care Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm Pacific Standard Time at (866) 932-4357.
